News and Notes
March 2011
Ready to escape this winter? Head to the islands for a warm and wonderful get-away….

Ashford Castle

Ireland

Travel to Ireland, the 12th largest island in the world, and surrounded yourself with extraordinary beauty. Low-lying mountains circle a central plain with several navigable rivers. The island’s lush vegetation is a product of its mild, but changeable, oceanic climate.

Ashford Castle

A medieval castle on the west coast near Galway, Ireland, Ashford Castle is a place where you can actually stay! For over 700 years, Ashford Castle and its 350 acre private estate have offered a myriad of ways to enjoy the hospitality of a castle in Ireland. From the imposing exterior to the richly decorated interior, Ashford Castle shows centuries of care and the love of fine craftsmanship. The accommodations at Ashford Castle are unique in the spaciousness of rooms, the elegance of the furnishings and the comforts of gracious living. While vacationing on the estate, the choice of activities will fill many happy days. Take the challenge of the castle's 9 hole private course, the Ashford Equestrian Centre or fishing the great lake and rivers on the estate.

Slieve League Cliffs

Located in the northern region of Ireland, the spectacular beauty is second to none. If you feel fit enough for the grueling four-hour clamber over rough rocks, to the place where St Patrick is said to have banished the snakes, you will follow the pilgrims’ route up the Holy mountain of Crough Patrick. As you travel inland the heart of the country is a green bowl of rich farmland, lakes, rivers and isolated ranges of rounded hills. It is a country full of character and tradition. There are thousands of prehistoric sites in Ireland, including megalithic tombs, stone circles and cairns littering the countryside. Ireland’s heritage is everywhere to be seen. Voted as one of the top 10 places to visit in Ireland!

Blarney Castle

Located on the southern coast of Ireland, Blarney Castle was built nearly six hundred years ago. Over the last few hundred years, millions have flocked to Blarney, making it one of Ireland’s greatest treasures. That might have something to do with the legendary Blarney Stone, found at the top of the Tower. Kiss it and you’ll never again be lost for words. People come for the Stone and stay for the mystical and beautiful Rock Close and Gardens, a romantic spot where nature and art work hand in hand.
